We invite all residents and guests of the Raseiniai region to visit a unique photography and photo collage exhibition on February 18 at 12:00 PM at the Municipality! The exhibition features photo collages by the U.S. photographer Samantha Heydt from the series Edge of Chaos and a photo series titled Red–Black by Raseiniai creator Rūta Račiūnaitė-Simėnienė. Both authors have previously participated in the Raseiniai District Cultural Center's projects, such as the International Šiluva Contemporary Art Biennale and Žemaitija's Legend.
"The edge is closer than we think, but illusions will not free us from reality, even if tabloid stories become history and the myth of progress continues to reinforce inequality. As the natural world fades, giving way to artificial environments, the social landscape fractures and alienates further. The media drowns out the message; reality is overshadowed by the white noise of information, soothing the social psyche with empty promises," – this is how Samantha Heydt describes her photo collage series.
Rūta Račiūnaitė-Simėnienė's exhibition also has a unique story. It was supposed to be presented several years ago when Rūta was studying in Raseiniai, but the planned opening day coincided with the municipality's closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Thus, we will have the opportunity to see several "postponed" exhibitions, which, in our opinion, have not lost their relevance. The world continues to race toward the brink of chaos at a dizzying speed... Perhaps art is the only hope for salvation.
The exhibition curator is Arūnas Kazlauskas, the project manager of the Raseiniai District Cultural Center.
