20 artists working with paper

On the 110 birthday of Björkboda school we celebrate by filling the house with paper art. 20 artists bring collage, sculptors, paintings, illustrations from across Finland, Europe and US to show together for the first time in Kulturhus Björkboda.

Today paper is a cheap, ubiquitous and reusable resource but for centuries paper has helped us to capture and share ideas. There is an immediacy and versatility to paper that suits so many applications. We use scrap paper to doodle, make wallpaper to decorate our homes and standard A4 conveys scripts, homework, memos and top secret documents around the world. Our enduring bond begins in early childhood when we learn first to rip, chew, scrunch and throw.

Artists depend on paper to draw, paint,collage, design, write poems and stories, build models. They sometimes seek out rare, handmade papers with the perfect opacity, texture, weight and absorbancy. Authors put their paper creations directly into your hands.

Paperworks is a celebration of collage, printmaking and sculpture. This Is the first time they have exhibited together and for some in Finland for the first time.
