The Cartesian gap between desire, memory, and reality reveals how the act of archiving is a result of the societal impulse to preserve the past and cement a coherent collective memory. At the heart of this series is the fabricated story of humanity, the fragile presence of history. Through methods of sampling and abstraction, the works focus on the circulation or ‘trafficking’ of images, as well as the context in which photographic images are produced, transformed, distributed resulting in their disconnect and departure from reality. Barraged with an overlapping entanglement of moments, the imagery speaks over the snippets of time to convey a sense of unity. Infused with intense greens and blues, the subjects all have the task of wearing color. The haze and a faded tinge of the footage convey a familiarity. How it all sweeps over you, a complex narrative of experience swaying on the fault lines of real, repressed, or representational memory. How is it that a mere material manifestation of a light refractory so painfully and intimately captures a fleeting glimpse of time lost?
