Time marches forward, life moves on, people pass away, memories are left behind. Pictures are remembered better than words, they preserve and serve as testaments of time past, existences had. Memories transcend the skeleton of the past like ghosts. How do we each make our way? What does it mean to lose parts of yourself over the years? This series explores the cyclical experience of birth, decay, and rebirth, the passage of time, giving and losing, disappearance, and new beginnings. It is about first and last: first words, first kiss, first job, first kid, first hip replacement, last breath. Its interests lie in transient spaces, how objects wear time, details inevitably become mysterious and banality acquires an aura through its universality. Pan-temporal vision and facile despair feel relevant here, not only as outdated ideas that still manage to have a pull and resonance to them but also in describing how physical spaces are navigated. Series paints a portrait through its delineation of places revisited throughout life: the front steps of your childhood house that you fell learning to walk, stood on the day you were married, twisted your ankle on while carrying furniture out after your parents passed away. Locations are unchanging here, only time functions as the variant here resulting in jumbled accumulation in static places. The celluloid color and faded nature of photographs convey a deliberate distance suggesting that we, too, are situated in a particular time that will, not long from now, appear equally outdated.
