Goldish Oasis
Goldish Oasis is pleased to present a temporary art installation by artist Sam Heydt. On view at their Faena Bazaar location through May 2019, the installation is comprised of lightboxex, dioramas, photography, found object interventions and direct animation films.
[about the installation]
Through movie imagery, war photography and vintage advertisement, this installation takes the self-deception of the post-war American middle class – i.e., the narrative created by tabloids, television, and cinema – as a leading motive, and sidesteps into iconographically related themes. By combining images of destruction and disaster with images portraying the virtues and ideals of the 1950’s, Heydt confronts the American Dream with the ecological nightmare advanced industrialization is responsible for.
[about the artist]
Sam Heydt, (born April 20, 1986) is an internationally recognized and critically acclaimed social practice and recycled media artist. Born in New York City, HEYDT has lived and worked in Paris, Venice, Amsterdam, Athens, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Udaipur, Miami and Vienna [current]. HEYDT’s work has been exhibited throughout the world and sits in the permanent collection of a constellation of important museums, institutions, and private collections. For HEYDT, illusion won’t free us from reality, even as the sustained narrative of tabloids becomes history and the myth of progress continues to perpetuate invisible violence. The transformation of the global landscape under the weight of industrialization is central to the work, as is the residual of consumption, the mutability of history and the material inequalities of a world reduced to a bottom line.
